Studying Spanish at Spanish World Institute

Our Spanish courses look for a deeper understanding of the Colombian culture, through cross-cultural education, personalized attention and dynamic teaching methods in a professional and friendly atmosphere.

The Spanish courses that we offer are:

Spanish Standard Course 15 hours per week Location: Bogotá.

Spanish Courses as a second Language are taught only in the mornings for 3 hours, for a total of 15 hours per week.

Spanish Semi-intensive Course 20 hours per week Location: Bogotá.

The daily schedule is 4 hours of class in the mornings, with a brief break in the middle of each session, for a total of 20 hours of class time each week.

Spanish intensive Course – 30 hours per week Location: Bogotá.

It also consists of 6 hours of Spanish lessons in the morning  from 08:00 am till 2:00 pm,with a brief break in the middle of each session  week including the activity of Fridays’ afternoon.

Bildungsurlaub Intensive Spanish Course – 30 hours per week – Class schedule 8am – 2pm

Location: Bogotá.

Spanish World Institute is an approved Spanish language school for Bildungsurlaub “Educational Leave”  Spanish courses.

What is is Bildungsurlaub Educational Leave?

Educational Leave is time off to undertake a course of full-time studies for a minimum of two weeks. Applications for this through Spanish World Institute would mean a full time course to improve your Spanish language skills in all areas from speaking, writing, reading and listening to pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. You will acquire the skills you need to hold conversations in Spanish in your professional and private life. In targeted conversation and role-play lessons, you will practise common situations and “small talk” from the outset in order to be more confident in everyday international business life. These lessons are deliberately designed to be practical. The aim is therefore to achieve a rapid improvement in communication skills and fluency, even with little knowledge of the language.

Our Spanish language courses in Bogotá Colombia with 30 hours per week are recognised as educational leave in almost all German states.
Regions where approved within: Berlin, Brandenburg, Hessen, Niedersachsen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein.

DELE exam Preparation

15 hours per week

Location: Bogotá.

In Class you will concentrate on practice test-skills, exam strategy for the independent and integrated tasks in the reading, writing, speaking and listening parts of the exam.

One-to-One lessons:

Location: Bogotá.

The course includes a complete needs analysis and a program of work, agreed on by the teacher and the student and a specialized individual study plan will be prepared.

Spanish course for specific purposes

Location: Bogotá.

Morning classes concentrate on improving Spanish language by working on the skills and in the afternoon the classes are focused on the Colombian customs and culture, Business, medical vocabulary.

Online lessons:

The course is completely individualized by the learner’s personal teachers, the subject matter can be chosen by the student, according to their interests, targets, and abilities, all materials are provided by Spanish World Institute and there is a free access to our Spanish school classroom platform. The start date is flexible and can be adapted to suit the new student’s commitments, and the speed of learning is personalized to the ability and needs of the student, so that they are comfortable with the pace, and really enjoy their learning experience.

Spanish plus volunteering Location: Bogotá.

This program combines standard Spanish courses with fifteen hours of volunteering work from Monday to Friday. Students take Spanish classes in the mornings, during the afternoon work as a volunteer. This experience is organised with public schools and elderly people.

Methodology

Spanish World Institute will prefer not to use rigid grammatical teaching methods. Therefore we will not use a single core book. The Spanish language school designs its proper academic material for the classes. These Spanish learning materials are carefully prepared to meet the student’s needs and are revised regularly. Teaches will also use CDs for listening exercises, as well as videos and many other playful material (games, magazines, and newspapers).

Class Structure

Our Spanish lessons include:

  • Test on the first day.
  • Time exercise.
  • Lessons targeting areas of grammar.
  • Revisions of skills (writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, idioms and slangs).
  • Cultural Activities.

 

Our Spanish language programs are carefully structured; classes will include the functions of Spanish grammar, Spanish reading, Spanish oral comprehension, Spanish written and listening exercises, as well as cultural activities. Some Spanish classes will discuss various aspects of Colombian and Latin American culture and society; students learn the language in the context of our culture.

Sometimes tuition can be one-to-one (one teacher, one student) due to the amount of students enrolled. This way gives students the full attention of the teacher and allows SWI to tailor the classes to fit student needs.

Timetable and Schedule

  • Spanish courses as a second language in Colombia will start every Monday. If there is a Colombian bank holiday it will start on Tuesday.
  • Spanish Standard courses class schedule 8am – 11:00 am.
  • Semi-  Intensive spanish Course courses class schedule 8am – 12:00 pm.
  • Spanish Intensive courses class schedule 8am – 14:00 pm.
  • Students can take and learn Spanish lessons for as little as one week up to an indefinite period of time.

Tests and exams

Students will also take progress tests throughout the course (usually weekly).

These help us to see if they are ready to continue to new levels.

In addition they will take a Spanish exam at the end of each Spanish level to check if they are ready to move up to the next level.

Certificate

On completion of the course at with at least a 90% attendance record, students will receive a Spanish certificate course from Spanish World Institute. This will outline the number of hours studied and standard attained.
